When Healing Becomes Service: Building a Home with the Community in Bali

Healing is not something that only happens on a meditation cushion.

Sometimes, healing happens when your hands are covered in dust, your heart is open, and you are standing inside a half-built house with strangers who suddenly feel like family.

This week, I had the honor of collaborating with Rice for Bali, Foodbank Bali, and Sophie So Free , an ecstatic dance DJ and artist based in Bali, on a charity project that reminded me why healing must always come back to service, presence, and community.

A House Built with More Than Bricks

The project was simple, yet profound: build a safe home for a Balinese family in need.

But what was really being built went far beyond walls and a roof.

It was built with:

  • Presence

  • Unconditional love

  • Collective intention

  • The quiet understanding that every child on this planet deserves a safe home

The community came together, not as healers and clients, but as humans. Some brought time. Some brought energy. Some brought music, food, and laughter.

And together, we created something real.

Art as a Portal of Presence

On one of the walls of the house, I painted the Nothing character.

A simple drawing.

Yet deeply symbolic.

The Nothing represents presence without performance. It carries unconditional love. It reminds us that we don’t need to become someone else to be worthy of safety and care.

For the children who will grow up inside this home, this character is a quiet guardian. A reminder that they are seen. Held. And enough — exactly as they are.

Healing Is Not Serious, It Is Human

Because healing does not always look calm. Sometimes it dances. Sometimes it laughs. Sometimes it moves the body so the heart can breathe again.

This is something I deeply believe in: Healing should not be heavy.

When we heal together, we remember joy. When we give together, we remember humility.

From Inner Healing to Collective Impact

At Heal With Sea, I guide people through breathwork, inner child healing, and creative expression.

But the truth is this: If healing does not make us more compassionate, more present, and more willing to give — then something is missing.

This project was a living reminder that:

  • Healing is relational

  • Healing is embodied

  • Healing is meant to circulate

You heal yourself. You come back home. And then you help someone else feel safe too.

This is the kind of world I want to help build. One breath. One house. One act of love at a time.
